With plain English and pictures, he makes complex ideas about shape and motion intuitive and graspable, and offers a solution to math phobia by introducing us to math as an artful way of thinking and living. I have to start by stating that I already had a love for maths, hence buying in the first instance. The book really makes me think about some of the underlying issues of using mathematics to explore the world around us. The suggested challenges are a great way to focus your thoughts on the expressed ideas that do encourage you to explore deeper.
I teach maths at an FE college and some of the ideas have made me think how I might encourage my students to see maths as a solution to engineering problems, rather than being the problem.
Paul Lockhart has a lot of great things to say about maths and maths education. Great book
